Langtang Valley Trek
Lantang valley trek is low altitude trek through the Langtang Valley, is near the Tibetan border.
At a maximum altitude of 3,900m, magnificent views of glaciers
and the Himalaya, this beautiful region of Langtang presents
very good value with excellent lodge accommodation and food,
also the lower altitude allows us to trek in Nepal's Winter,
so less crowded.
The Langtang trek is one of the finest in Nepal despite
being the 3rd most popular trek in the country. This isolated
area just South of the Tibetan border offers unspoilt trekking,
spectacular landscapes and a host of impressive peaks. In
the remote Langtang valley we trek through Tamang villages
where the culture is purely Tibetan. We trek through forests
of Rhododendrons and Oak alive with birds, to emerge in
alpine landscape of soaring snowcapped peaks and sweeping
glaciers.
The Beautiful Langtang Valley
From Kathmandu we take a bus to the Tibetan village of
Syabrubesi (1420m) and start our trek with a great day's
walk over a ridge to the valley of the Langtang Khola. We
then hike up a lush wooded gorge where we expect to see
monkeys and birds. Emerging from the forest we start to
get glimpses of the peaks ahead and walk on past the prayer
wheel to the village of Langtang (3500m), the largest village
in the valley. Yak grazing pastures and fertile fields of
barley and buckwheat surrounds Langtang. As we walk up the
valley the mountain views become increasingly spectacular,
especially of Langtang Lirung (7245m) and the amazing fluted
peak of Gangchempo (6387m). We base ourselves at Kyangjin
Gompa for 3 nights to explore the surrounds and the upper
reaches of the valley.
Holy Gosainkunda Lakes
We return by a different route. We trek to Lauribina. We
get exceptional views of the summit Langtang. An optional
treks to the holy lakes of Gosainkunda where thousand of
pilgrims bathe during a festival during the full moon of
August. Descending below the lakes we are greeted by the
magnificent vista of high and famous mountains from Manaslu,
Peak 29 and Himalchuli in the west, to Ganesh Himal and
the Langtang mountain range in the east.
